On the Fast Track to Success
The launch of "The Science of Speed," a new online series of videos aimed to improve engagement in science among students in grades 8-12, was announced Friday, April 3, 2009, at the Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth. The successful partnership of the National Science Foundation, NASCAR and the University of Texas at Dallas will take students behind-the-scenes to reveal the sophisticated science and engineering that underlies NASCAR racing. The 12-part video series borrows illustrations from the wildly popular motor sport to explain scientific principles essential to NASCAR racing, such as friction, heat, drag and drafting.
